Back to West Michigan Day 2: Tubing and Water Skiing!

We started our day in the early afternoon because we slept through most of the morning.  It gave us the opportunity to ease into the vacation at a slower pace.

Around 3 pm (though it felt more like noon) we drove to Spring Lake to take my brother-in-law's parent's boats out on the lake.  Driving along the I 96 westbound stirs up many memories.  We drove near my old apartment in Coopersville where I lived my first year out of college before I married Rob.  It was also where I ran some of my first miles (that were painful!) and decided to take up long distance running.

Rob and I had the pleasure of living in Fruitport for four years which is not far from where we were today. We loved living only a few miles from the lakeshore.  In the large scheme of things we were there less than half the amount of time we have been in Oregon.  It still is part of our story.

We were able to spend a couple of hours "playing" on the water.  My three kids and my sister's two kids tubed together dispersing themselves across two tubes.  They braved the choppy waters and swift turns.  Even our youngest had a fabulous time and was not scared at all.

I got to water ski which I love doing.  I don't get many opportunities to water ski, but I managed to get up my first try.  After a couple tries I was able to make my way out of the wake. My younger two tried to ski as well.  They did not get up, but I was proud of them for trying.

The lake itself was a comfortable temperature.  You jump in and are used to it right away. I am used to our mountain fed Oregon lakes and rivers that are always chilly.

We had pizza right at the boat marina and then we drove back to Grand Rapids.  We had a fabulous first full day.
